Freud Anniversary Lectures

Established 1951

The Freud Anniversary Lecture is presented annually at NYPSI on or about May 6, the date of Freud’s birth. The broadly-stated intention of the Freud Anniversary Lecture is to address a subject relating to Freud and his work.

Freud lecturers are chosen by a special committee and since the inaugural lecture a roster of distinguished psychoanalysts, among them Robert Bak, Charles Brenner, Janine Chassequet-Smirgel, Helene Deutsch, Anna Freud, Phyllis Greenacre, Heinz Hartmann, Theodore Jacobs, Edith Jacobson, Ernst Kris, Bertram Lewin, Hans Loewald, Roy Schafer, and Leo Stone have presented papers that have become classics of the psychoanalytic canon.

The current Chair of the Freud Lecture Committee is Leon Hoffman, M.D.
