Child and Adolescent Anxiety Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (CAPP)

ADVANCED SEMINAR IN CHILD AND ADOLESCENT ANALYSIS

Presenter: Sabina Preter, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Preter will introduce the audience to the child and adolescent anxiety psychodynamic psychotherapy (CAPP) and talk about her experience of learning and applying the technique, during her analytic candidacy in particular. She will provide an overview of the treatment, address the manualized form and present the case of a young teen she treated with CAPP during the pilot study. She will also give examples of children in her private practice who could be suitable for and benefit from this treatment.

Dr. Sabina Preter is a graduate of the adult and child analytic programs at NYPSI. She is Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Payne Whitney Clinic, where she completed her fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry, after completing her residency in adult psychiatry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She obtained her undergraduate education, her MD degree and a PhD in Psycholinguistics in Europe.

Dr. Preter is in full-time private practice where she treats children, teens, and adults (mostly young adults), primarily in psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. In addition, she is Director of Child Clinical Services at the NYPSI Treatment Center and serves on the faculty teaching the Freud I course.

Dr. Preter joined Drs. Barbara Milrod and Ted Shapiro and the CAPP project (Child and Adolescent Anxiety Psychodynamic Psychotherapy) in 2009 and is presently co-authoring a book on this topic. The group hopes for a 2018 publication date.
