Course Description

This course will provide an introduction to the systematic empirical study of psychoanalysis and psychotherapy. The instructors will touch on the history of research at NYPSI, discuss the conception of psychoanalysis as a science, and compare systematic empirical research and clinical case studies.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. compare clinical cases approaches and systematic empirical approaches
  2. describe how clinical material can be examined in a systematic fashion

Evaluation Method

Each student’s participation in class discussion and his or her demonstration of understanding of the course objectives and reading material is assessed in a written evaluation by the instructor(s).
