Course Description
The clinical case seminar consists of individual students’ presentation of process notes of evaluation and treatment. Discussions focus on application of clinical theory to patient treatment. We use both the students’ and instructors’ process notes to illustrate and develop clinical psychodynamic psychotherapy techniques for deeper engagement and more effective treatment.
Course Objectives
After attending this course, students will be able to:
1. Present clinical material to demonstrate an analytic approach to evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment
2. Demonstrate and use psychodynamic psychotherapy techniques to deepen the treatment so that treatment is more effective
3. Demonstrate the ability to participate in peer- and senior clinician supervision through productive and effective criticism of self and peers’ clinical work
Evaluation Method
Each student’s participation in class discussion and his or her demonstration of understanding of the course objectives and reading material is assessed in a written evaluation by the instructor(s).
