NYPSI offers a combined clinical psychology post-doctoral fellowship and introduction into psychoanalytic training program for new psychologists who are interested in psychoanalysis, but are unsure whether they want to pursue analytic training. The fellowship involves two components:
1) A one year full-time or two year half-time program for psychologists who have their Ph.D. but are not yet licensed. It provides further training in psychoanalytically-oriented adult and child psychotherapy and psychological testing with excellent supervision, seminars, and choices of research, teaching, parent-child work, and school consultation experience. Post-doctoral fellows are paid a fee for services when conducting psychotherapy and psychological assessments.
2) Post-doctoral fellows have the option of taking half of the first year of psychoanalytic classes in the adult and child psychoanalytic training program at no charge, per year as a post-doctoral fellow. As a result, upon completion of post-doctoral hours fellows generally complete the first year of psychoanalytic training and have the option of applying to the psychoanalytic training program to continue on as a candidate. Fellows are also assigned a mentor to discuss professional goals.
