The Horowitz-Sondheim Fellowship for the Treatment of Theater Artists

The Horowitz-Sondheim Fellowship for the Treatment of Theater Artists will commence operations on September 2, 2025. This one-year program is designed to provide clinicians with the opportunity to treat theater artists under the close supervision of a NYPSI psychoanalyst. It caters to the needs of mental health students and practitioners aspiring to deepen their exposure to psychodynamic and psychoanalytic thinking.

Program Goals

The fellowship aims to enhance clinicians’ understanding of their patients by incorporating psychodynamic concepts into their practice. It also aids fellows in deciding whether to pursue formal psychodynamic or psychoanalytic training.

Commitment and Structure

The program requires a one-year commitment and operates on a rolling admissions basis, allowing fellows to start at any time of the year. Fellows will treat between 1-3 theater artists, with 1 hour of individual supervision provided weekly by a NYPSI member who has graduated from the Adult Psychoanalysis Program.

Additional Opportunities

Fellows will have the opportunity to participate in the NYPSI Psychoanalytic Fellowship. This includes two monthly seminars held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month during the academic year. In one seminar, invited analysts from the faculty present their own analytic case material and discuss it with the class. In the other seminar, psychoanalytic principles, ranging from Freud to current theoretical approaches, are taught through readings and discussions. These classes are conducted virtually via ZOOM.
