405: Continuous Case Seminar

Co-requisites

Candidates must have or have had at least two cases in supervised psychoanalysis to be eligible for upper level courses.

Course Description

In this continuous case conference, a child case presentation will alternate with an adult case presentation. Discussion of the analytic material of the cases will emphasize clinical theory and technique. Comparisons between analytic technique in adults and children will be made. Third and Fourth year students combined. Alternates with 303 Continuous Case Seminar.

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. describe and better utilize psychoanalytic modes of listening and intervening in order to deepen psychoanalytic treatments especially with regard to transference/countertransference configurations.
  2. compare adult and child analytic treatments with regard to: the psychoanalytic frame, the modes of intervention, and the goals of treatment.

Evaluation Method

Each student’s participation in class discussion and his or her demonstration of understanding of the course objectives and reading material is assessed in a written evaluation by the instructor(s).
